the team at CamHam.
Fast and friendly
Every office manager wants to run an efficient, productive team. And most of that will involve lots of work being done. However, we all need refreshment at some point in the day, and the coffee machine queue will vary in length according to what time it is. So, bearing that in mind, giving your staff something to read and digest whilst they’re waiting for their drink to arrive can actually be a very productive way for them to spend a few precious minutes…
What, an old fashioned notice board? We hear you cry. Absolutely, we reply. And here’s why…
A notice board is a great way to visually communicate important messages
That sounds really obvious, but in this digital age it’s something that’s being overlooked more and more. You can’t enjoy a coffee digitally. But you can enjoy a quick browse on the notice board in front of your nose whilst you’re waiting for your coffee to pour. Clearly, you’re finding out the latest news or details of an event coming up. But there are more subtle things you enjoy too. A feeling of being part of a community. A sense that you’re able to keep yourself informed and up to date.
Used creatively and cleverly, a coffee machine notice board can bind a team of disparate individuals together. Colour coded information can denote the importance and/or urgency of information. Highlighted dates and times can catch the attention. Fun sharing of details can take place in an informal but useful and engaging way.
A notice board is a creative way to inspire
To take the above point a bit further, there’s still nothing like a crowd of people peering at a load of photos of the Christmas party pinned to the staff notice board. Yes, digital versions will be flying around left, right, and centre, but two people pointing and giggling will pull a few more in, and hey presto! Some fabulous team bonding is taking place.
There’s also nothing like a little bit of healthy competition amongst work colleagues either. ‘Employee of the month’ is a good way to promote great work ethics etc. Or a more fun way of drumming up rivalry and team building might be through a more eclectic set measures for employee achievements. Making people feel valued and appreciated, whilst keeping things fun, boosts staff morale.
A notice board enables you to keep contacts you can’t email informed
But being the digital beasts that we are, we seem to rely almost exclusively on communicating via social media and email now. However, your office may see many visitors come and go. People who aren’t yet directly connected with your business but whom you’d still like to keep informed. A strategically placed notice board in reception can be an ideal way to share information with them without thrusting it down their throats.
