When the weather’s been as good as it has been, motivation to keep working can be on a bit of a low. We’re all human. It’s just how it is. We confess, even we’ve been looking longingly outside across Northampton and beyond, dreaming of beaches, sangria, and air conditioning. But that’s the thing, isn’t it? The interior of our office wasn’t even getting a glimpse; which prompted us to have a think about how office interiors can actually have quite an impact on comfort and productivity. And that’s regardless of whether you’re looking out across a built-up section of Northampton or beautiful open countryside! So…
You want your staff to walk in every morning happy and ready to get working. Regardless of whether it’s sunny, or raining, in the heart of a conurbation like Northampton, or out in a converted office complex in the sticks… you want them sitting down and raring to go. And what they see as they walk in makes a huge difference in this respect. The calm confidence of professionally set out office interiors impacts everyone’s morale; matching furniture sets, well-maintained décor, a pot plant or two… it all helps set the mood.
Employees who feel proud of their employer, their offices, and their work… are PR agents on steroids for a business. When an employee feels pride, they like to keep the office tidy and well organised. They want that professionalism to continue. They want every visitor to be impressed as well. They want to be associated with such kudos.
This isn’t just about being in a good mood, we’ve said that already. This is about there being the right workstations, the right storage, and great facilities to enable people to pick up where they left off… and get going.
This matters. People like to know where they belong. A well-laid out office has workstations and clearly defined work areas. Office screening can afford privacy where it’s needed. Open-plan can boost communication within and across departments. Give people ‘a zone’ and they’ll get into ‘the zone’ as soon as they arrive for work.
Uncomfortable office furniture, grubby walls, and tatty carpets… are distracting. Putting morale aside, if you have staff sitting in ergonomically designed chairs that support their backs, surrounded by smart décor, they are not only going to be able to focus on their work in comfort, they’re actually going to want to focus on with their work.
So there you go. Whether the sun’s been shining down on you in urban Northampton, or you’ve been pelted with rain in a rural retreat, office interiors still have impact. If you’re thinking we’re talking sense and would like to make some changes to shift the mood and morale of your staff as they walk through the door every morning, please do give us a ring. We’ve got lots of ideas!
