Furniture with a Function – Office Screening, a room with a view?

Apr 2, 2016

So… you’re thrilled with your office. It’s fabulous and big. There’s lots of room for all your staff, all your departments (Accounts do like to have their own defined area, though, don’t they?!), and yes… there’s even space for a coffee machine. Open plan is just great, isn’t it?

So… you’re thrilled with your office. It’s fabulous and big. There’s lots of room for all your staff, all your departments (Accounts do like to have their own defined area, though, don’t they?!), and yes… there’s even space for a coffee machine. Open plan is just great, isn’t it? It improves communication and creates a buzz. Yet despite all that, there is a bit of a ‘BUT’… It does have a flip side…

Be seen, or screen?
Many businesses have noticed that a totally open plan layout actually effects both productivity and the morale of employees.  Those much vaunted benefits of improved communication are actually being countered by distraction overload. But if building partition walls isn’t the answer, what’s the alternative? You’ll not be surprised that we, at CamHam, have a suggestion…

Ever considered free standing, or desk mounted, screens? Here are some reasons why you should…

Easy way to define spaces
Anything from departments, to breakout areas, to front end reception space can be easily defined using office screening. And the layout options are infinite!

Efficient way to use space
Work areas defined using office screens can actually be a lot smaller per employee than fully partitioned offices, without feeling restricted or cramped. The fact that a screen doesn’t reach nearly as high as the ceiling means that the fresh, relaxed feel of an open plan layout isn’t lost.

Reduce distractions
Working behind a screen helps reduce both visual and sound-based distractions. Actually, depending on the material of the screen, sound can be reduced quite significantly.

The right level of privacy
Employees work more effectively when given a bit of privacy. They don’t need much… but they do like some. Office screens offer an ideal solution. Plus, let’s face it, though some employees are tidy as they work, others aren’t; it’s just the way of the world. To help keep frustration to a minimum, desk screening is an ideal way of confining a messy employee’s mayhem.

Easy to re-configure
Partition screens are easy to move around. For little time, and no cost, a departmental layout can be quickly and easily altered to expand or adjust to a different number of employees. Simple!

Make useful pin boards
No joking! Office screens really do make handy pin boards for timetables, reminders, telephone lists etc.

Enhance aesthetics
Office screening adds colour and shape to a large space, and significantly improves the aesthetics (and atmosphere) of what is, in reality, a dull rectangular room.

Improve comfort
Sometimes, particularly in warehouses where the ceilings are very high, it simply isn’t practical to build solid walls right the way up. But even if it is possible, they block out light and restrict airflow. Office screening offers a very suitable alternative.

At CamHam, across Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire and beyond, we have a wealth of experience in kitting out both new and expanding offices. We know what works to get the best from the square footage you have.

We understand that maximising space makes for a better working environment, and our office screen solutions do exactly that.  So if you need help deciding how to improve the layout of your office, get in touch!
