Furniture for thought… and outdoor meetings

Apr 6, 2016

Two phrases – “The Great Outdoors” and “Business Meetings” – aren’t usually associated with each other. The former suggests leisure, whilst the latter clearly doesn’t. But are folk just caught up in some sort of clichéd thinking here?

Two phrases – “The Great Outdoors” and “Business Meetings” – aren’t usually associated with each other. The former suggests leisure, whilst the latter clearly doesn’t. But are folk just caught up in some sort of clichéd thinking here? It’s not as though you want to sit at your office desk all day. A constructive meeting seated on some nice outdoor furniture never hurt anyone.

So, come on you Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire peeps, move your office outside and make the most of the warmer weather.

Why have outdoor meetings?
As you’ve probably come to realise, we at CamHam like to think outside of the box to create an office environment that works for your business and meets the needs of your employees. We like to take normal ideas and turn them upside down.

So, why have outdoor meetings when you’ve got a fabulous meeting room kitted out with fabulous meeting room furniture just waiting to be filled? Well, we’d suggest that sometimes, just sometimes, everyone needs a change… A change is as good as a rest after all.

5 reasons to take your meeting outside…
A casual setting can aid an appropriately casual attitude: The beauty of an outside meeting is that, just for a while, you’re not all sitting at an office desk or meeting room table. The relaxed design of outside furniture can evoke a more relaxed and casual approach to a meeting; which might be exactly what is needed to facilitate our next point…

Outdoor meetings get creativity flowing: Following on from the above, sometimes stepping outside the box, literally, enables participants to step outside the box mentally too. Your brain is taking in different surroundings and processing different stimuli. People begin to think differently. Picture the stuffiness of the office workstation gone; imagine the casual comfort of outside furniture instead. It sets a fabulous scene for a brainstorming session, doesn’t it?

Provides a chance to chat: As a business owner you may not like the sound of that, but as your staff are walking outside – pleasantly surprised, hopefully – they’ll chatter and bond. Call it a team building thing, if you will, but we reckon that matters! However, if that doesn’t work for you, perhaps it’s worth thinking like this instead – they’ll get their chit chat done whilst walking, so when they sit down at their picnic table they’ll be all chattered out!

Gets staff away from office distractions: If you’re really keen to get ideas flowing and being discussed, taking people away from their desks, the receptionist, and other colleagues is a great way to stop interfering distractions. Seated around strategically placed outside furniture, they can talk, discuss, debate and conjure up all sorts fresh ideas.

Mixes things up: Employees can be creatures of habit. They go to meetings, sit in the same meeting chair, next to the same person, to look at the same clock to check - ok, admittedly a different - time. By taking them outside, you’re changing the scene, changing the office furniture, and encouraging them into a different state of mind about the meeting.

Let’s put Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire on the map and get a name for doing business just a little bit differently... Give us a ring at CamHam and we’ll get you kitted out with outdoor furniture in no time at all!
