Arrrgggh! The weather in our fair shires of Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire has been all over the place this week. And boy! Don’t those rainy days make it hard to get motivated? So what can you do to help your staff get going…?
Get them in the mood as soon as they walk in…
First impressions count, don’t they? And that’s a saying you’re probably used to associating with visitors and potential clients. However, when it’s raining cats and dogs and your employees have had to battle to get into work, you know what… the first impression they get for the beginning of their work day counts too. As they walk through that door feeling grump, the calm welcome of soft reception seating and a professionally laid out reception desk can make all the difference.
Remind them why they’re proud to work for you…
Of course, you already want your employees to feel proud when a potential customer arrives for a meeting. And we’re sure you want them to feel part of an efficient team too. Providing office space and meeting rooms that reflect the professionalism the company represents goes a long way towards that. And one easy way to achieve this is via a tidy, uncluttered look. Our mantra is that office storage is a hidden pair of hands… and it doesn’t half help with a clean look as well.
Make it easy for them to get going…Only a couple of weeks ago we published an article about fixing broken office furniture, which is worth drawing on again now.
So… imagine an employee coming in first thing, drenched, cold and – let’s face it – a wee bit grumpy, knowing that their first task is to find a missing file. And worse than that, they know it’s somewhere in the one filing cabinet that’s broken – which is why it was misfiled in the first place.
Now imagine them coming in first thing, drenched, cold and grumpy, thinking that once they’ve hung up their coat and made a coffee, at least they can get into the swing of things without a hitch. The foul weather can get on with its business outside, and they can get on with your business nice and warm inside. It’s a better vision, isn’t it?
Give them a chance to collect themselves…
Whether your office is open plan or not, a well laid out office has workstations that give each member of staff their own defined sense of space. Well positioned office screening can add to the sense of privacy they have. So once they’ve bemoaned the appalling weather outside to all and sundry, and sat down, make sure their office space gives them a chance to collect themselves and ‘get into the zone’.
Ensure they can work with focus, in comfort…
If they’re cold and irritable, then sitting down to work in an uncomfortable chair isn’t going to help matters. Providing your staff with ergonomically designed chairs will enable them to adjust their seat to exactly the position that suits them. And let’s face it, if one of the most common reasons for people taking time off work is back pain, don’t let a damp day add to that. Make sure their workstation chair improves their posture and comfort, not hinders it.
So, whether your staff are tackling this miserable weather in Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, or further afield, we reckon with a bit of thought you can get them in the mood for work as soon as they walk through the door.
